Vrbo Host Situations
Updated August 2025
Why is Vrbo raising Premier Host standards?
Beginning early next year, Vrbo is raising Premier Host standards to strengthen traveler trust and ensure travelers have confidence in the Premier Host badge’s status as a true indicator of hospitality excellence. Raising standards help listings stand out in search results and reward hosts who go above and beyond.
What is specifically changing with Premier Host program? What are the new criteria?
Premier Host will transition from a host-level to individual listing-level recognition, allowing Vrbo to spotlight the properties that consistently deliver standout stays. Listing qualifications will include:
- 99% acceptance rate of incoming traveler inquiries
- 0% cancellation rate of confirmed bookings
- Average 4.6+ review rating
- Minimum of 5 reviews
- Minimum of 5 total bookings or 60 total booked nights
How are current Premier Host partners being notified of the change?
We are actively communicating updates to partners ahead of the transition, so partners have clarity on what’s changing and how to prepare. All hosts, regardless of previous status, will receive coaching recommendations and guidance to help them understand listing-level requirements and qualify under the new structure.
Why is Vrbo removing hosts off its platform?
Vrbo is dedicated to creating a trustworthy marketplace for vacation rental travelers who want reliable and consistent experiences. To ensure a great travel experience, we are addressing preventable host cancellations. We identified hosts who do not meet our marketplace standards, including low acceptance rates, poor reviews, and high cancellations. These hosts have been notified that they will be removed from our platform.
How many hosts have been removed from Vrbo and will this continue to happen?
In 2025, Vrbo removed over 100,000 listings that failed to meet the brand’s quality standards. We will continue to routinely audit our marketplace to ensure traveler trust and fair visibility for partners who consistently deliver exceptional experiences.
Are hosts required to use Vrbo Payments and have Vrbo be merchant of record?
No, Vrbo Payments is an optional feature that helps partners handle the complexities of payment processing while giving hosts access to high-value One Key travelers and visibility across Expedia Group’s marketplace.
How do you ensure the new AI-powered features like review summaries or Q&As are accurate?
Our AI tools draw from authentic guest feedback and verified listing details to ensure accuracy.
What safeguards are in place to prevent manipulated or misleading reviews/photos in guest reviews?
Vrbo uses a moderation algorithm, combined with oversight from human moderators, to ensure only appropriate reviews and photos that meet our standards make it onto the platform. Reviews and images flagged by our system are assessed before appearing alongside your property. If there is still an identified issue, you can call Vrbo support or your account manager to flag the review and/or photo for us to evaluate and take action if needed.
