Whether it's a museum visit, local sports game, or guided tour, travelers are increasingly planning their entire trip around a desired experience. For travel businesses, that makes activities an important part of the booking conversation, alongside flights, lodging, and car rentals.

Expedia Group B2B is responding with the beta launch of the Rapid Activities API. The new API is designed to help partners build customized, end-to-end shopping and booking experiences on top of Expedia Group’s curated inventory, enhanced by Tiqets’ expertise in attractions and museums.

At the same time, select UK agencies using Expedia TAAP (Travel Agent Affiliate Program) can access curated Tiqets activities in beta. Together, these new offerings give Expedia Group B2B partners more ways to bring the experiences travelers are looking for into their own customer journeys.

Activities are becoming part of how travelers plan trips

The traditional booking sequence often began with a destination, followed by a flight and hotel search, with activities added later. That pattern is changing as travelers put the experience itself closer to the center of trip planning. A theme park, concert, museum, or guided tour can be the reason for the trip, shaping the destination, dates, and other bookings around it.

77%

Travelers want to book their entire travel on one platform*

Expedia Group’s Full Trip Planning research found that 77% of travelers want to book their travel on one platform. For travel businesses, the implication is practical: a customer planning a broader trip needs an easier way to move from inspiration to a bookable itinerary that includes more than lodging.

Now the Rapid Activities API extends the Rapid API ecosystem beyond lodging. It supports the activities flow from inventory discovery and content retrieval through availability, price checks, booking, and post-booking management. Partners can keep control of their front-end experience while using one integration to power the activities functionality that fits their business.

Use the Rapid Activities API to make activities part of the existing travel experience instead of sending customers to a separate booking path.

A simpler path to activity recommendations with Tiqets

Selected Expedia TAAP partners in the UK can now access a curated activities experience with Tiqets inventory during the beta phase. Tiqets is a global booking platform for museums, attractions, tours, and other travel experiences — and its strengths in attractions and museums add depth to Expedia Group’s activities offering.

The curated experience is designed to reduce the time travel advisors and agents spend searching through a large catalog. Agents can find selected activity options relevant to a destination and trip context, then use those recommendations in conversations with their clients. The result is a more guided path from discovery to quoting and booking.

Takeaway

Benefits for travelers and providers alike

Travelers can get more of the trip into one planning conversation, including the experiences that may have inspired the trip in the first place.

Travel advisors can leverage the curated experience feature to easily recommend an activity that complements a hotel or flight booking.

Un-Adulting shows why activities belong at the center of the story

In Unpack ’27, Expedia Group’s annual research report on upcoming travel trends, Un-Adulting is a key travel behavior expected for 2027. It centers on reclaiming childlike joy and seeking carefree experiences that feel like a break from being an adult. Theme parks, nostalgic activities, adults-only trips and other playful escapes all fit the trend.

The research found that 57% of travelers are likely to book an Un-Adulting trip in 2027, rising to 71% among Gen Z and millennials**. Travelers say they are looking for a carefree day, quality time with loved ones and a genuine break from everyday responsibilities.

Takeaway

Tap into traveler intent

Use activity-led themes, such as “Un-Adulting,” to merchandise experiences around traveler intent, making it easier for customers to find something they will remember after the trip.

How travel providers can capitalize on the activities shift

Activities are no longer an add-on to the trip. For a growing share of travelers, they're the reason for a trip. The "Un-Adulting" trend further points to where that demand is headed through 2027. The Rapid Activities API and the Tiqets beta launch offer two concrete ways to meet that shift today. Partners who move early on activities integration will be positioned to capture that demand as it grows.
